Adani Group Tries To Make An Entry Into The E-Commerce Sector

Introduction:

The Adani Group, one of the biggest global conglomerates, is really keen to venture into the e-commerce sector. This is being done in an attempt to bring all its customer-centric businesses under the same roof. By introducing a super app for users, it plans on further expanding its boundaries and giving enhanced competition to Tata and Ambani. TATA Group and Reliance Industries Limited already have an extended presence in the customer-facing sector. With Adani's entry into this sector, it will also be able to get closer to its customers. The Adani CBI Investigation will also come to a halt.

Why Venture Into The E-Commerce Sector?

The main reason that India's biggest conglomerates are entering the e-commerce sector is the growing urge for digitalisation. The country's economic growth is expected to be triggered in the upcoming years, mainly because of digitalisation. More than a billion Indians will start owning smartphones by the end of the decade. The online domestic shopping market will also reach around 450 million USD. This makes it inevitable for companies belonging to different business sectors to navigate into this particular field and earn profitability for their businesses.

Companies like WeChat and Alipay already have over 1 billion users. They have already demonstrated to the world how all-in-one apps can lock customers into the company's ecosystem. They have also been offering a wide array of services to customers through the apps. From travel and shopping to healthcare and banking, the companies have been pushing the use of superhero apps among customers.

How Will The Adani One App Benefit The Conglomerate?

The introduction of the app is seen as the latest effort by the Adani Group to recover from the Hindenburg crisis. The global conglomerate suffered a huge loss during the crisis, which caused a severe blow to its business. It shaved more than 150 billion USD of its market value. The Adani CBI Investigation also caused many of its projects to come to a halt. However, the firm was very soon able to recover from the crisis and get back to its business operations with full force.

The Adani One app aims to target around 500 million users. If this goal is achieved, then Adani One will be the most used app in India, along with WhatsApp, YouTube, and PhonePe. The people of India are already using mobile apps for a variety of purposes like texting, shopping, etc. So, it is not going to be a really difficult affair for the conglomerate to drive customers towards its E-Commerce business. It will help the Adani group in earning an excellent profit from its business operations. The company will also be able to recover from the losses that it suffered during the Hindenburg Crisis.

Greatly motivated by the TATA Group and Reliance Industries Limited, the Adani Group is also taking various measures to ensure that it gets the desired popularity. These business giants have already targeted customer-centric businesses with their Neu and MyJio apps. The companies already have an extended presence in the customer-facing business. The Adani Group's business is mainly centred around renewable energy and infrastructure segments. So, it may find it a little difficult to reach out to the target audience. However, looking at the way the conglomerate is progressing in the digital sector, it will surely come up with a strategy that can give its e-commerce business an extraordinary boost.

Other Efforts Being Made In The Digital Sector:

The Adani Group is also planning to enter mobile payment by applying for a licence to operate on the country's public digital payments network, the Unified Payment Interface. This will help the conglomerate in attracting more users. It will also allow the company to process payments for its various services. The third-party charges can also be removed. In June 2024, the Adani Group also launched a credit card with ICICI Bank. This gives Adani Group's customers access to shopping vouchers, airport lounges, and reward points. It is also working with Alphabet Inc's Google, Microsoft Corp, SAP SE, ICICI Bank, CitiBank and payments firm Pine Labs Pvt to build its digital strategy.

Conclusion:

In this way, even with the ongoing Adani CBI Investigation, the Adani Group succeeded in making an excellent presence in the e-commerce sector. With time, it will continue to extend its presence in this sector and take its business to new heights.
